The medium to dark ruby-colored 1998 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur de Roy (50 to 80-year-old vines) has a licorice and blackberry-scented nose. Aged entirely in new oak barrels, this medium to full-bodied, intense, and structured wine has a firm, tannic backbone buried under loads of lively black fruits. While some would opt to cellar this wine in the hope that the fruit would outlast the tannin, I would suggest drinking it over the next 5 years.
