The special cuvee of 70-year old Tempranillo vines located next to one of the oldest Vega Sicilia vineyards, the 1999 Nebro is a spectacular effort. It is a single vineyard offering aged 16 months in new French oak (Darnajou barrels), and made from yields of 17 hectoliters per hectare. Made in a style reminiscent of Peter Sisseck's 1995 and 1996 Pingus, this glorious wine offers up scents of roasted espresso, vanillin, black cherry liqueur, blackberries, licorice, and spice box. Full-bodied and unctuously-textured, with an impressive integration of wood, acidity, and alcohol, it is unformed, but accessible. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2025. Now is the bad news ... only 75 cases were produced.
