The 2010 Blanc d’Orto is a pure Garnacha Blanca that undergoes seven months batonnage. It has a rather neutral bouquet that offers light aromas of dried pressed flowers. The palate is medium-bodied, with a waxy textured entry and a Roussillon-like flavour profile and notes of nectarine and dried herbs towards the finish. It is an understated wine that probably does not deserve the price tag, but it is well-crafted. Drink now-2016.
I had never heard of Orto Vins before I tasted through their range. I was impressed by both the consistency and by their pursuit of single varietal bottlings that might come at a price, but satisfy the curiosity of those who enjoy foraging for lesser known grapes. I thought their wines were extremely well-made and packaged.
