The 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva possesses hard tannin as well as a dry finish. I actually prefer the 1997 regular Brunello (rated 90 in issue #137) over the Riserva, which appears to have less exuberance and freshness. While it offers a complex nose of soy, damp earth, cedar, and tobacco, medium body, and good up-front density, the finish is filled with hard, astringent tannin, hence the question mark.
