Dominique Ay's first vintage, the 1982 Gigondas is still hanging on to life and has fully mature notes of ripe cherries, forest floor, mushroom, spice and mint all emerging from the glass. Showing plenty of Grenache charm on the palate, with medium-bodied richness and an evolved, slightly fading profile, I suspect it was best drunk up a decade ago, yet it offers plenty of insight into the evolution of the wines of this estate. Drink up if you have them, but it was a privilege to taste this vintage at the estate with Christophe and Anne-Sophie Ay.
