The 1996 Rioja (80% Tempranillo with small quantities of Grenache, Graciano, and Mazuelo) is a smoky, sweet, oaky, rich, complex, Pomerol-like Rioja with copious quantities of black cherry fruit highly dosed with sweet vanillin. With a velvety texture, medium to full body, and excellent, possibly outstanding concentration, this soft wine can be drunk now as well as over the next 10-12 years.
