The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 Zinfandel Old Crane Ranch (14.9% alcohol) exhibits a subdued aromatic profile that, with air, offers up black cherry and berry fruit intertwined with pepper and underbrush scents. Structured and monolithic, with some tannin, it appears to be ageworthy, but my experience has shown that Zinfandel rarely improves after 5-7 years in the bottle. This is a terrific example of Zinfandel.
