First, his Vin des Pays and Cotes du Rhone Blanc, both of which are noteworthy. An even split of Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier and Grenache Blanc, the 2012 Cotes du Rhone Blanc (aged all in tank) offers a rich, textured feel with notions of buttered peaches, citrus blossom, fresh cut hay and hints of white flowers on the nose. Fresh, clean and lively, with medium-bodied richness and depth, it’s a delicious, borderline outstanding white to drink over the coming couple of years.
Another bastillion of traditional winemaking, Jean-Paul Jamet fashions two Cote Roties from his roughly 17 acres of vines, located mostly on the schist soils in the northern part of the appellation. The winemaking here includes very little destemming, pump overs as opposed to punch downs, and aging in a combination of demi-muid and barrel, with roughly 15% new.
