The light gold-colored 1998 Chardonnay Hope’s Cuvée displays a smoky, roasted nut, barrel-fermented nose with plenty of buttery fruit in the background. This full-bodied, chunky, husky style is not for everybody, but there is plenty of flavor in this robust, Meursault-like effort. Drink it over the next year before the fruit fades and the wood takes over.
