The 2011 Barbaresco (with 24 months in Austrian and German oak barrel) shows a firm, austere side with masculine overtones of old spice, tobacco and leather. The fruit at the core is dark and brooding with great textural richness. It shows thick grains and broad brush strokes in terms of its spice-driven taste profile. Some of that austerity will soften with age. Drink: 2016-2024.
