The 2017 Chianti Classico (a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo) is wide and broad around the mid-palate, showing the softness and the richness of fruit in this hot and dry vintage. Unlike other wines that display the vintage heat with jammy aromas, this wine shows width and extra layering in the mouth. Ripe cherry and strawberry cede to spice and potting soil. On second or third nose, you begin to find some jammy fruit here too. Serve it up for lunch with sweet sausage and peppers. Production is 50,000 bottles strong.
