The 2008 Chianti Classico is a pretty, fresh wine ideal for near-term enjoyment. The Chianti Classico is fleshier and deeper than the Monrosso, with a juiciness and spiciness to the fruit that is quite attractive. It is a enjoyable entry-level Chianti Classico from one of the region’s top producers, but sadly is not imported into the US. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013.
Monsanto is a reference-point producer for fine Chianti. The estate’s top bottlings have a brilliant track record, but these entry-level wines deliver almost as much pleasure at much more accessible prices.
