The Shiraz selections begin with the 2005 Shiraz “The Distance” which was aged in French oak for 24 months. Purple/black in color, it exhibits a superb aromatic array of cedar, spice box, black pepper, and blueberry. Full-bodied, layered, super rich, and ripe, it conceals ample sweet tannin. Give this personality-filled Shiraz 6-8 years in the cellar and drink it through 2030. Congratulation to young Mr. Tscharke for an impressive collection of wines!Glaymond’s owner/winemaker is Damien Tscharke (whose namesake winery is reviewed in this report) with winemaking consultation from superstar Chris Ringland. The vineyards are owned by the Tscharke family which had previously sold the fruit to larger producers. The vines are in a tenderloin portion of the Barossa for growing top-class Shiraz. It should be noted that all of these wines except for the “Glen’s Selection” were reviewed from barrel samples by Robert Parker in Issue 167.Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; www.glaymondwines.com
