Chapoutier continues to turn out a Chablis-inspired white wine from his holdings in St.-Joseph. Both the 1992 and 1993 mineral-scented and flavored St.-Joseph Deschants blancs are beautifully made northern white Rhones. Like the 1993, the 1992 has a peach/floral-scented nose, elegant, crisp, medium-bodied flavors, and beautiful precision and balance. It should drink well for 5-7 years. Chapoutier's obsession with tiny yields and natural, pure wines that reflect the vineyard's terroir, soil, and varietal aromatic and flavor profile are well-displayed in his current and up-coming white wine releases.
