The 2007 Costieres de Nimes Les Enfants Terribles, a blend of equal parts Mourvedre and Syrah, with half aged in tank and half in barrel. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of freshly grilled mushrooms, blueberries, black currants, truffles, and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, earthy, and spicy with enough fruit to balance out the earthy undertones, it should be consumed over the next 2-3 years.
Another top bargain producer in the Costieres de Nimes (they also make the wines reviewed under the moniker Mas des Bressades), Mas Carlot fashions very good to excellent, occasionally outstanding wines that all sell for a song.
