Vinva els Vilars 2006 Vilars is 50% Merlot and 50% Syrah aged in French oak for 10-14 months. Opaque purple-colored, it displays aromas of scorched earth, pencil lead, blueberry, and black currant. On the palate it has excellent depth and volume, intense flavors, and a medium-long finish. Give it 1-2 years and drink it from 2011 to 2018. Another lovely offering from this bucolic hillside appellation, Villars’ 2006 exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue along with sweet aromas of incense, crushed rocks, blueberries, and raspberries. Medium-bodied with sweet tannin as well as excellent concentration, it should drink well for a decade or more. Good value.
