The 2004 Vilars is a blend of 50% Syrah and 50% Merlot aged for 8 months in 70% new French oak. Purple-colored, it offers a complex array of mineral, iodine, pencil lead, blueberry, and blackberry aromas. There is ample sweet, spicy fruit in the wine’s medium-bodied personality but it narrows out slightly in the finish. Give it 2-3 years to unfold and drink it through 2015.
