The finest Chateauneuf du Pape is Les Galets Blonds, an old vine cuvee produced from 93% Grenache and 7% Syrah from the famed La Crau sector of Chateauneuf du Pape. Aged in both tank and old wood foudre, there are 600 cases of the exceptional 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Galets Blonds, an impressive effort tipping the scales at a whopping 15.7% alcohol (none of which is detectable in either the aromatics or flavors). Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of jammy black fruits intermixed with mineral, fruit cake, balsam, and herb scents. This dense, unctuously-textured, layered Chateauneuf can be drunk now as well as over the next 12-15 years.
