Patrick Lesec directs/assists in the production of two cuvees of Chateauneuf du Pape. The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Galets Blonds tips the scales at 14.7% natural alcohol. Made from primarily Grenache, with a small amount of Syrah and Mourvedre, it is not racked until it is assembled for bottling, which is done with no fining or filtration. Fortunately, there are 500 cases of this powerful, rich, multilayered Chateauneuf du Pape that is bursting with black fruit. This sweet (from ripeness not sugar), full-bodied, concentrated wine should turn heads with its hedonistic display of fruit, glycerin, and alcohol. It is a big, rich, accessible style of Chateauneuf du Pape that should drink marvelously well for 12-15+ years.Patrick Lesec continues to build his portfolio of handcrafted wines, buying specific cuvees from producers, and having them (1) bottled with low levels of SO2, and (2) usually without any aroma, flavor, and texture-stripping fining and filtration. This wine is a well-made, textbook example. Patrick Lesec Selections (Paris fax # 011 33 1 42843822), various American importers.
