Taken directly from barrel, the 2013 Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières is matured in one-third new wood. It has a brisk earthy bouquet that is tightly coiled at the moment, but nicely delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of sappy red berried fruit with a stern cranberry-driven finish. A little strict, this will probably need a couple of years aging in bottle.
