The 2003 Chianti Classico opens with gorgeous, elegant notes of flowers and spices, followed by generous amounts of ripe fruit, with outstanding length and building tannins on the finish. It is a wine that beautifully marries the warmth of the vintage to a more classic, somewhat austere expression of Chianti Classico. The wine’s ripeness suggests it may be approachable fairly early, yet its structure says it is also built to age. Though today the Chianti Classico is fairly bold, with some cellaring it will likely develop into a more delicate, nuanced wine. It is a great introduction to the estate’s wines.
