From one of Western Australia’s boondock appellations, Frankland River, Rocky Gully’s 2004 Shiraz/Viognier (96% of the former and 4% of the latter) boasts a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a flamboyant, exuberant bouquet consisting of flowers, litchi nuts, and cassis. Made by the folks at Frankland Estate, this Shiraz contains 5% Viognier, which didn’t add the nuances that it typically does. Starts off on the nose with black and green pepper, which turns to toast and ink with some time in the glass. Inky on the palate, yes, but also a touch shrill.
