Fess Parker’s fairly priced Syrahs are all well worth buying. The more serious cuvees include the 2005 Syrah Rodney’s Vineyard. Classic aromas of creme de cassis, charcoal, barbecue smoke, and crushed rocks are followed by a dry, full-bodied, admirably concentrated Syrah possessing superb purity, texture, and depth. While accessible now, this youthful effort will evolve for at least a decade. This reliable winery still boasts Hollywood icon/hotel developer/top vineyard owner Fess Parker running the show.
