The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino is a fresh, floral, high-toned red that flows onto the palate with a silky grace that is impossible not to admire. Sweet red cherries, tobacco, roses and licorice emerge as the wine sits in the glass, but this Brunello is just as much about textural finesse as it is about aromas and flavors. Impeccably balanced throughout, the wine offers tons of elegance in a style that will appeal to readers who appreciate traditionally made Brunello. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
Once again, I came away deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Il Marroneto, a small property located to the north of the town of Montalcino.
