The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino opens to an attractive garnet hue with darkened signs of age at the rim. The bouquet delivers mature aromas of smoke and ash, with cured meat, licorice and balsam herb at the back. It shows a pretty evolution and faithfully reflects the aromatic aging trajectory of Brunello. There’s a touch of grittiness on the finish followed by dusty, dried pine wood sensations. Drink: 2014-2022.

Beautiful aromas of blackberries, cherries and vanilla follow through to a full-bodied palate, with good tannins and a lightly jammy finish. A year or two of bottle age will really bring it together.
