La Jota turns out one of California's finest Petite Sirahs. The 1994 Petite Sirah, which is the first vintage with a dollop of Viognier added in the blend, is another staggering example of this underrated varietal. The color is an opaque purple, and the nose offers up gobs of chocolatey, black-raspberry, and cassis fruit, along with vague scents of earth and vanilla. Super-rich yet surprisingly velvety and voluptuously-textured, this full-bodied, round, expansive Petite Sirah is more accessible because of the Viognier in the blend. Drink this fabulous wine over the next 12-20 years.
While La Jota has an effective national distribution network, quantities of the wines are also sold via a mailing list, a list on which any Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, or Cabernet Franc lover should be included.
