The “entry-level” 2007 Vinyes Baixes is predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a dollop of Garnacha and Carinena aged 14 months in French oak. Despite the fact that the more prestigious grapes of the DO make only a cameo appearance, this is an impressive effort. Notions of cedar, cinnamon, clove, lavender, black currant, and cassis inform the nose of this smooth-textured, supple, nicely proportioned red. Rich, layered, and long, it will benefit from 3-4 years of cellaring and deliver prime drinking from 2014 to 2022.
