The 1980 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Rouge is showing nicely, offering up inviting aromas of sweet berry fruit, mossy soil, burning embers, walnuts and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's deep and elegantly fleshy, with impressive depth at the core, bright acids and largely melted tannins. This is a lovely example of an old-fashioned red Chassagne at full maturity, but with plenty of years ahead of it in a good cellar.
