Mocali’s 2012 Rosso di Montalcino is my favorite Rosso of the year and a highly recommend value wine. The wine is seductive and irresistible thanks to fullness of the fruit it offers in such a confident, almost cocky manner. This is a wine that knows what it wants to accomplish: It makes good on its promise to deliver a genuine, no-fuss drinking experience without the grand expectations of a Brunello di Montalcino. The architecture here is modern with big lines and chunky cherry endnotes. But it also makes rooms for the subtleties of menthol, licorice and balsam herb. Drink: 2014-2020.
