The powerful, seamlessly constructed, inky/purple-colored 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain (700 cases) is brilliant. Formidably endowed, with tannin and muscle, it will require some patience. A blockbuster nose of smoke, charcoal, black currants, and licorice is followed by a huge, rich, massive Cabernet with impressive definition, surprising purity, and impeccable balance.
