The 2002 Auxey-Duresses Blanc Les Boutonniers is absolutely extraordinary, soaring from the glass with a delicately honeyed bouquet of buttered yellow orchard fruit and flowers, complemented by subtle top notes of beeswax and petrol. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional and satiny, with an elegantly textural attack, considerable mid-palate depth and pristine delineation. As my score suggests, this Boutonniers embarrasses many grands crus from other producers in this vintage. While it's already beautifully expressive I'd expect it to continue to drink at this level for another dozen years.
