Clerico’s 2009 Langhe Nebbiolo Capisme-e is a new wine made from Barolo-designated vineyards in Monforte. This entry-level Nebbiolo is given a relatively short fermentation and aged predominantly in steel with a brief passage in neutral oak. The 2009 shows gorgeous, bright red fruit and tons of Clerico’s signature polish. It is a terrific, affordable Nebbiolo. Unfortunately, the Capsime-e is not yet available in the US, but hopefully that will change soon. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014. This is a strong set of wines from Domenico Clerico, one of the few growers in Piedmont who can be counted on to deliver the goods year after year throughout his entire range, from top to bottom.
