The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Empire appears to be built for a relatively long life. Classic aromas of seaweed wrappers (nori), licorice, black currants and cherries emerge from this tight, impressively built, dark ruby/purple-colored wine. In the finish, the tannins kick in. Since this 2010 is closed and youthful, it is best forgotten for 4-5 years and drunk over the following 15 or more.

I tasted four separate 2010 cuvees, all of which may turn out to be outstanding given the overall strength of this vintage.
