Chezeaux’s 2005 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots shows a hint of game along with incense and high-toned cherry on the nose; an impressively substantial, fleshy palate with pure though not at all superficially-sweet fresh fruit nicely covering its abundant tannins; and a fine finish featuring cherry, brown spices, herbs and wet stone. This seems to have both the structure and sappy fruit intensity for at least 5-7 years in a cellar. Jerome Chezeaux had just bottled (albeit without filtration) when I visited, so allowances should be made for the possibility that the wines were suffering from this. Also recommended: 2005 Bourgogne (84), 2005 Vosne-Romanee (85+?), 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges (86+?), 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains (?).Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchant, Pine Plains, NY; tel.
