The inky/purple-hued 2002 Durif The Howling Dog (Petite Sirah) smells like pen ink, graphite, and violets. Massive, with huge extract, awesome flavor concentration, and high tannin, it is reminiscent of some of the old vine Petite Sirahs made by California’s Ridge Vineyards in the early seventies. Aged 20 months in 2-year-old French oak casks, and bottled unfiltered, it can be drunk now, but should last for two decades or more.Importer: Benjamin Hammerschlag, Epicurean Wines, Seattle, WA; tel.
