This is a value-priced wine in the marketplace. This delicious wine, a candy-like, kirsch, framboise-scented and flavored wine that is dry, crisp, medium-bodied, slightly austere, and classy. Drink it over the next 10-12 months. Domaine de la Mordoree, the property of Christophe Delorme, has become one of the superstar estates of the southern Rhone, turning out exquisite Chateauneuf du Pape, as well as high class Lirac, Cotes du Rhone, and Tavel rose. Not all of the wines qualify as "best buys," but readers who have followed my Rhone Valley reports and adore these Provencal wines, would be foolish not to try the wines from this impeccably run estate. There are generally two cuvees of top wines from Lirac and Chateauneuf du Pape, a regular cuvee and the Cuvee de la Reine des Bois, the latter being produced from the estate's oldest vines and most concentrated juice. About 4,000 cases of the 15,000 case production are imported to the United States.
