A creative melange of 42% Syrah, 37% Grenache, and 21% Mourvedre, the superb 2003 Rising Tides possesses a deep ruby/purple color, a sweet, ripe nose of black raspberries, kirsch, licorice, and subtle oak, high tannin, medium to full body, and beautiful purity. It requires another 1-2 years of bottle age, and should last for a decade. With a higher percentage of Syrah than Sticks and Stones, Linne’s Rising Tides is darker and deeper. It suggests black cherries veering into black currants, with a rich, dark chocolate note, and a finish of sweet, charry oak. Nonetheless it’s a dry wine, and a little soft. ——S.H.(10/1/2005)—— 93
