The 2007 Jolie Bouche Syrah spent 16 months in 24% new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, the nose offers up spicy blueberries, lavender, and toasty oak. On the palate, it exhibits plenty of richness combined with some elegance. At the moment it is not revealing much complexity but that is likely to emerge with another 2-3 years in the bottle.
Efeste (FST, the initials of the three amateur winemakers who started the winery in 2005) produces 6000 cases distributed in 10 markets. Most of the wines are single varietals made with native ferments and bottled without fining or filtration. There are two Cabernet Sauvignon cuvees in the portfolio. Unlike with the Syrahs, the 2007s had yet to be bottled when I visited the winery.
