The 1995s are made in a restrained, but classic style. The 1995 Zinfandel Estate Reserve reveals the ripest nose of the four Zinfandels reviewed in this segment. Although shy, the wine reveals a dark purple color, as well as an attractive floral, black-cherry, and mineral-scented nose with hints of pepper and spice. It tends to behave more like a young Cabernet Sauvignon than a Zinfandel, but there is no doubting its sweet, ripe fruit and excellent purity. Medium-bodied, with a layered texture, this well-built wine should prove to be uncommonly long-lived. It will benefit from another 1-2 years of cellaring, and last for 10-15 years.Readers who have followed the evolution of the Storybook Mountain Zinfandels must realize that these wines, which emanate from steep hillside vineyards north of Calistoga, are among the longest-lived Zinfandels produced. In fact, some vintages of the Estate Reserves give every indication of evolving and improving for 10-15 years, a distinct rarity among Zinfandels.Tel. (707) 942-5310
