The proprietary blend of 70% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 1999 Rapace, was aged 18 months in French oak. Not surprisingly, it is even sweeter and riper than the 1998. Its opaque ruby/purple color is followed by a perfumed, fragrant bouquet of saddle leather, licorice, black currants, and dried herbs. Opulently-textured, rich, fleshy, and fat, with beautiful integration of acidity, wood, and tannin, it will drink well for 8-9 years.
