The 1964 is a total success for Rouget. The predilection to wines with a rough, big, tannic structure has--in this vintage--resulted in a wine with more balance and harmony. Very deeply fruity, with earthy, black currant flavors in abundance, this full-bodied wine has power, symmetry, and surprising length. Rouget is one of the better Pomerols in this vintage. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 1/85.
