Sabon's finest Cotes du Rhone is the 1999 Les Garrigues, a wine made from 80-year old Grenache vines, and aged in foudre. It could easily pass for a delicious, seductive Chateauneuf du Pape. The wine's kirsch, herbes de Provence, and peppery notes are offered in a sweet, medium-bodied, seductive style. It should drink well for 3-5 years, perhaps longer.
This is a brilliant effort from one of the Rhone's most accomplished young winemakers.
