The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore is a tightly constructed wine, with balanced aromas and good integration in terms of both the acidity and the tannins. These results have been smoothed over and finely polished by barrel and bottle aging over these past five years since the harvest. In fact, it's nothing but smooth sailing over the senses from start to long finish. Nothing is out of place, and I expect the tannins to further soften before this production of 4,000 bottles is released in March of 2021.

This Brunello is rich and fruity, with latent power and a solid structure. Plum, black cherry, iron, tobacco and black tea flavors are matched to lively acidity and dense tannins, while the aftertaste echoes fruit and mineral accents. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore is remarkably pure and pretty, blossoming in the glass with a display of rosy florals, wild strawberries, leather and hints of autumnal spice. It’s soft natured and enveloping, silky yet with juicy acids that propel its ripe red fruits and salty mineral tones across the senses. At times, there’s almost a weightless feel here, impressing more on grace than power as it tapers off with gentle tannins under an air of violets and hints of licorice. The 2016 is a contemplative wine that keeps you coming back to the glass over and over.
