Yves Gras, one of the southern Rhone’s bright, young winemakers, owns a small negociant operation under the label, Santa Duc Selections. The two offerings I tasted included an excellent white, the 2003 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Sablet La Fornas (a blend of 40% Bourboulenc, 30% Viognier, and the rest Clariette and Grenache Blanc, all primarily aged in tank). Notes of candied white currants, citrus oil, and pear are found in this medium-bodied, elegant, fruit-driven white. Enjoy it over the next year.
