The 2009 La Mala is a single vineyard Tempranillo, which has an incredible nose that jumps out of the glass: violets, spicy black oak, tantalizing and telluric, with notes of soil, and an Atlantic character mixed with Mediterranean herbs. It has a medium-bodied palate with great freshness, acidity and length and pure, delineated flavors that stay in your mouth for ages, ending very spicy and earthy, almost saline. After two days opened, the wine keeps its vigor and its impressive nose, developing more nuances and changing by the minute. There is a bright, high toned note of black pepper that keeps me going back to the glass. A great wine of strong personality. Superb. Drink now-2020.
Dominio de Atauta is in the coolest place in Ribera, in Atauta in the province of Soria. The winery was acquired by the Avantselecta group in 2009 and since then there have been a number of changes, including the winemaker.
