Accordini’s 2005 Passo is a wine that combines native and international varieties with unusual flair. Jammy black cherries, spices, wild herbs, tobacco and sweet toasted oak flow from this generous, soft red. The wine possesses outstanding length even if the persistence drops off a little on the mid-palate. Firm but well-integrated tannins round out the close. This is a beautiful Veronese red. In 2005 Passo is 60% Corvina Veronese, 15% Rondinella 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The fruit was air-dried for 40 days prior to vinification and the wine spent 12 months in new French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012.
I was very pleased with what I tasted from Accordini this year. This small family-run property is located in the heart of the Amarone district. The wines are made in a friendly, accessible style and are priced very fairly relative to the quality of what is in the bottle.
