I was surprised that the ruby-colored Beaune Greves was served to me after the Clos Des Mouches in this tasting. It is reminiscent of the previous wine but without similar length or complexity. Displaying mineral and roasting spice-laden aromatics and a well-structured, cherry and strawberry-flavored core of fruit, this is an excellent, medium-bodied, oily-textured wine packed with dark cherries and touches of underbrush. It will be at its best between 1998 and 2004.
As always, ratings with a score in parentheses indicate the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle.
