The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva offers up spices, earthiness and wild cherries on a medium-bodied frame. The search for concentration in the fruit seems to have also produced excessively hard tannins that are rather austere within the context of the vintage. Oakiness dominates a finish that never seems to find its center. I actually preferred the 2005 Brunello here. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019.
