The 1998 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is less successful than the regular bottling, and I question making a Riserva in a vintage such as this. The aromas are more traditional here, with some notes of leather and game along with the red fruit, and the palate, though endowed with good power and length, is less supple and a bit tough on the finish.
