The 2005 Barolo Brunate-Cannubi is an unusual wine in that fruit from such high-quality sites are seldom blended together these days. The Brunate character seems to dominate in a deep, rich expression of dark fruit, spices and menthol. The wine shows awesome balance in a powerful, masculine style that will require a measure of patience. The Brunate-Cannubi spent 24 months in French oak, 30% of which was new. This is another impressive Barolo from Damilano. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.
This is a very nice set of Barolos from Damilano that show a move towards a higher and more consistent level of quality than has been the case in the past, good news especially since Damilano controls more than half of the Cannubi vineyard, traditionally considered one of Barolo’s top sites.
